Leisure

For new home owners or those visiting Oxnard, you will find a wide range of fun things to do in the city. Oxnard is home to some amazing activities and events and is a wonderful city for recreation and leisure time.

Oxnard is just sixty miles to the northwest of Los Angeles. It is a relaxed, seaside area that's home to miles of beaches, water-sports, waterfront recreation, amazing festivals and weather. It is a wonderful retreat and place to live in all year long. There are a number of all-season sports activities and facilities available to everyone. If you are looking to join one of Oxnard's adult hockey camps or league baseball teams, you will be pleasantly surprised by all that the city has to offer.

There are cultural outings available that will suit almost everyone's taste. The city's thriving music scene and style is known as "Nardcore." However, concerts in every genre, from Pop to salsa music, are frequently staged in and around the city. Oxnard is also home to the state's Strawberry Festival and neighbors the beautiful Channel Islands National Park and their National Marine Sanctuary.

Sailing is a common activity in the city. Be sure to visit the Ventura Country Maritime Museum to see a large collection of vintage and antique model ships, marine art and nautical exhibits. If you are an art lover, the Carnegie Art Museum will have a lot to offer. If you are interested in undertaking anything from sailing lessons to faux painting classes, there are numerous groups and courses at your disposal. For the car racing fan, try some lessons at the country's best known karting school, Jim Hall's Kart Racing School.

If you are a coffee lover, be sure to visit Mrs. Olson's Coffee Hut in Channel Islands Harbor: it was recently voted the top breakfast restaurant in the entire country by Esquire magazine. With it's vibrant nightlife and access to southern California's hot-spots, Oxnard is a wonderful location to celebrate in if you're about to get married or just won your local dream car raffle. If you are a wine lover, try the Cheers! L'Chaim! Salut!, the city's top spot for dining and wine tasting.

The city has some great, historic architecture to take in such as the old Woolworth Building. There, you'll find some of the city's many great options for dining. You will find award-winning offerings for almost any taste, from local styles to Mediterranean flavors, mixed into Victorian and converted industrial spaces. You will also find a number of great event spaces, from parks to conventional halls. They are home to some unique events, from food product launches to large conferences, that may be of interest. Be sure to keep aware of what's happening at the heart of the city at Heritage Square.

Take advantage of all of the activities available on Oxnard's beaches and on the city's waterfront. At the Channel Islands Harbor's Marine Emporium Landing, rent a kayak or Segway scooter, go fishing or swimming or bask in the sun. Oxnard is like no other city when it comes to leisure options.
